The ancient city of Lviv, which was once part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, welcomed us very warmly with the presentation of the project. The gallery owner Júlia Skop organised a presentation at the Grant Hotel. Many prominent artists have come and brought already painted pictures.

Male singing group TERCIA - each member painted one letter of the group's  name and sang from their repertoire. In the end, all present people held their hands and thus symbolised a chain of positive thinking and friendship.

There were thirteen of us. The participants in the 11th International Fine Art Festival of Andrej Smolak Gallery. We were working in the Art Centre in Snina and reminiscing. In the news they commemorated the third anniversary of the Twin Towers' collapse in New York.

At first we wanted to paint one picture together – a big canvas as a protest, to draw attention of humans to how dangerous terrorism is. Later we changed our decision. In the morning I came up with the idea of painting small pictures with dimensions of 20 x 20 cm. I handed out the canvases to the artists, and in the evening the painter Thuraya Al-Baqsami from Kuwait gave me the first picture. We began to create a chain of pictures and already then I thought that there would be 40 075 pieces of them, exactly as is the perimeter of the equator in kilometres.

There were thirteen of us. I'm the thirteenth. I am not superstitious, but I believe that this deed will bring a success of this little big project. I have been developing the project slowly. At various plein-air symposiums, I handed out the canvases to the artists in order to paint the pictures. No one refused. The participants of the fine art festivals in Snina painted pictures as well. Later I named this project the "Painted Equator". The aim of the project is to paint and collect 40 075 pictures from the personalities from every country in the world. The projet is not about a Guinness record. Its goal is to draw the attention of people of all the nations to positive thinking, friendship between the countries and the tolerance of all the cultures of the the world.
